on hiatus at least.
i haven’t been blogging.
obviously.
so this is officially goodbye. if i start any new projects, i’ll be sure to post them here.

buffalo’s stuntman recently sent me an absolutely lovely mix. it’s about a half an hour of diverse goodness that left me feeling hot, bothered, AND like the entire world was hugging me/i was hugging the entire world back. drugged by dub and bass, maybe? i dunno, but if music came in powder or pill form, this stuff would surely be in demand on the streets.

you can listen to it now via stuntman’s soundcloud, but if you want to download it, you’ll have to wait until it’s available on don’t trust humans.

home video’s new album drops mid-november. in the mean time, go listen to smoke over at consequence of sound.

be on the look out for business transaction, a super-hot song that somehow straddles both spooky and sexy without sounding cheesy.
go back to 2006 for a minute and check out the video for sleep sweet:
this actually reminds me of a couple other songs i really like.
geographer – kites:

the juliana theory – emotion is dead part 1
i must say, i’m not the biggest fan of most of the juliana theory’s stuff. other than these two songs (and a super-emo-tronic song called ‘you always say goodnight’) i don’t recommend you listen to them. heh.
the juliana theory – emotion is dead part 2

one of my favorite disco biscuits songs, mirrors:
ellie goulding – the wolves (bon iver cover):
cold war kids – hang me up to dry:

mumford & sons – blank white page:
that’s all for today. have a splendid weekend, lovelies.

new music! graphics – ok rainbow
graphics is still making beautiful electronic music. here is proof.
listen to graphics – ok rainbow:
in case you missed it the first time around, i touched on the greatness that is graphics a while back. the biko remix is still one of my favorite tunes of all time. (of all time!!!) this particular producer just knows how to capture raw emotion and morph it into pretty sounds… leaving the listener feeling slightly heavy, leaving the listener thinking and questioning. i like that kind of music.

recently remembered how much i liked this song.
501 – higher ground

in true never-ending playlist fashion, i present to you a list of songs i’ve been listening to over the last few months. please keep in mind, also in true tNEP fashion, these are by no means the hottest and newest tracks in the industry, nor are they all considered “bass music.”
gonna try to compile posts like this more often… considering the fact that i actually started this blog with that in mind.
so here ya go:
blue mar ten – nobody here (kastle remix)
florence and the machine – cosmic love
statelapse – waiting (diesel remix)
matt-u – watchin u
this tune is absolutely huge. it’s been forthcoming on subway for a while now… if anyone knows of a definite release date, please pass the info along! it’s the kind of tune that kind of makes you feel uncomfortable – in a really good kind of way.
and this next tune… you’d have to be on crack to think i’d even possibly be able to leave it out of any list involving tunes i’ve been digging lately. (or… forever. this man is amazing.)
eskmo – cloudlight
pieces of skylight.
von d & dj madd – u / it’s over
katy b – katy on a mission
the naked and famous – young blood
falty dl – my friends will always say
boards of canada – dayvan cowboy
modeselektor – let your love grow
mia – xxxo (various remix)
another tune you’d have to be on crack to think i’d leave out:
rusko – hold on fr. amber coffman (subfocux remix)
when that drumstep bassline and that disgusting synth kick in… i freak out. doesn’t really matter where i am/what i’m doing… i freak out.
that’s enough for now.

brent still life = epic sounds.
cleveland’s brent still life cannot stop doing good things to draw attention to his name. everyone agrees: the man is a more-than-talented dj. in addition to throwing it down in the club (and throwing parties that don’t suck), he also apparently can’t stop spitting out sick songs.
recently signed to savory audio, bloodshot agenda is a must-have for anyone serious about sub bass. (it’s easy accessible on itunes, too!)
listen to brent still life – bloodshot agenda:
brent still life teamed up with another cleveland-based dj, promoter and producer, thunder st. clair(TSC) about a year ago to turn out a remix of DZ’s up & down.
listen to DZ – up & down (brent still life & thunder st. clair remix)
the still life/st. clair collaboration was featured on badman press’ release of the up & down remixes ep. (you can easily download it via itunes, too!)
TSC is one of the main reasons cleveland’s dubstep event sub:merged continues to grow each month. (speaking of sub:merged… rumor is things are about to get purple again in october! we saw ginz earlier this summer… so this can really mean only one thing. YUP.)
between both of these boys, cleveland is bound to become more than just a blip on the radar of brrrap.

mmm mmm: guilty pleasure remixes
both of these are must-haves on the never-ending playlist, no matter how many times you’ve heard them.
fenech soler – lies
the original:
the doctor p remix:
still looking for a downloadable version of this tune? look no further.
plan b – the recluse
the original:
the nero remix:
big up magazine is giving away this track for free in honor of dubs friday. which was… yesterday.

time to fess up: i’ve been bad.
i have a confession to make: i have been majorly slacking on staying up to date with new music. i know exactly who to blame that on, too: fresh young minds. i have just been too busy listening to that guy blow my mind. repeatedly. over and over again. this one mix… is that good.
you know you love a mix when you can listen to it as much as i have listened to this one. i guarantee you will love it, too, cuz i know you guys love hip hop and this mix is chock full of crunkified goodness. there are bits of aural nostalgia scattered throughout, the beat will keep your hips swaying for sixty minutes straight and, in case you were wondering, fresh young minds (aka FYM) doesn’t really mess around with anything that isn’t absolutely bulging with body-shaking and spine-tingling bass.
listen to FYM live at electric soiree in santa cruz 8.14.10:
fresh young minds is one half of the bay area dubstep duo known as blackheart, but has had basslines flowing through his veins for as long as he can remember. he’s successfully melting a whole hell of a lot of faces these days with his particular style, which really doesn’t fit into any particular mold – other than being straight up danceworthy.
it’s definitely worth mentioning that the other half of blackheart is doing big tingz, too. bad/media is a natural behind the decks (not exaggerating) and has been killing the production game lately, too. this guy takes sound juxtaposition to a whole new level. but don’t just take my word for it – listen to his most recently signed tune for yourself.
check out bad/media – time to kill:
yeahhhhhhhh. just when you think the song couldn’t get any better, IT GETS BETTER.
bad/media = good/music. and thank goodness for good music.
p.s. need a drumstep fix? check back soon for a brand-spankin-new, heavy-on-the-drumstep mix from fresh young minds and do yourself a favor and check out this killer dubstep vs. drumstep mix laid down by long-time tNEP favorite rastatronics.

you may have heard this tune on starkey’s lodubs mixtape,* and it only took one listen for me to come to the conclusion that i genuinely adore this track. it’s an added bonus that it just so happens to be available for free! free! free! thanks to the lovelies at dubs alive.
*check the comments section of that post for a potentially awesome starkbass-related find.

i’m a long-time fan of pretty much anything either one of the the spit brothers touch (remember last year when i went crazy over dubsworth’s oldie-but-goodie hate radicals mixtape and gushed about how it was the best first few minutes of a mix evar?) and this tune proves that this duo will continue to push their ultimately unique yet strangely familiar classically dub sound to the limit. but honestly… you really haven’t heard anything until you’ve seen the spit brothers live.
listen to the spit brothers – done gone there (dubsworth ft. bakir):
in addition to all of the above free stuff business, dubs alive 006 was released on september 21 and features tracks from the spit brothers and other favorites including djunya, 66bocc, bakir, and luthor.
check out DAV006:
ahhh. consistently good music coming from these guys. but you already knew that.

are you kiddin me, you didn’t know that shorty wearin apple bottom jeans and the boots with the fur was a whore?
if you’re a biscuits head, you already know when the band will be in town and what shows you’re hitting up. if you’re even mildly interested in the psychedelic trance-fusion sound they’re known for or the lazer-jam industrial-dub sound they’ve been dabbling with more often lately, they’re hitting up multiple cities (some for multiple dates – watch this video and check the dates at the end!)… just trust that someone, somewhere has a ticket for you.
cleveland: if you didn’t know already, the disco biscuits will be inside of you on thursday. i hope to be in attendance… cuz well… one word: LAZERS.

it’s been forever since i’ve updated this thing, but i’m still getting hits, so i might as well keep doin’ it. as always, you should know that i don’t discriminate against age on this page. all music, old and new, is treated equal. so i’m just going to throw three songs up here that not only happen to be pretty damn good but also happen to be available to the public via the internet…
-
jantsen – i’m a balla (mashup)
i’ve always been a fan of any and all jansten tunes, and this leaves me feeling no different about the denver producer’s style. speaking of denver, s.p.e.c.t.r.e dropped this in a mix early last year but you should still head over to trashcanpunch to grab the mp3 for your own collection.
-
professor green and lily allen – just be good to green (joker remix)
i don’t think this song really needs to be talked about. it’s been played, it’s known, it’s whatever. but it’s still good enough and i still play it enough to make mention of it here… juuuuuust in case you haven’t heard it yet. (that comment goes out to all of you guys living under cardboard boxes. hehe.)
-
zion i – juicy juice (siren remix)
you can grab this for free over at siren’s soundcloud, and have been able to do so for a while, but just in case you’re unaware of the calibre of this kid’s music… before you head over there – cuz i know you’ll never leave – listen to me. LISTEN. TO. ME. this kid is SERIOUS. this kid is TALENTED. whatever he’s doing with his computer and those knobs and buttons and stuff… he’s doing it right. this oakland producer combines crunk-soaked synths with bouncy basslines to bring you a whole new level of what could otherwise be known as crunkstep, but honestly, there’s no defining siren. that would be doing him a diservice. (you could do him a HUGE service by supporting his music, though, and picking up a copy of jingletown - which if ya don’t know, is the name of a little section of oakland.)

-
ok. just because i updated this thing today doesn’t mean i’ll update it ever again. hopefully – er, that’s the goal – but you’re not allowed to hold anything against me. that’s my disclaimer.

thanks to the latest mix djg did for sonic router,* i discovered what can only be described as …an amazing tune.** i for one believe it deserves much more attention. i present to you… mayhem & distal – frozen barnacles. in their own words: “we fix dem tings be frozen.”
when i was listening to the mix, for a split second i thought i was hearing djg’s duality try to sneak it’s way in. the same driving, methodical, deep, rolling sounds… but arranged completely differently. yes, this is the sound i like – call it future garage, call it dubtech, whatever… it’s beautiful. the crisp drums, the muted horns, the slightly glitchy beat, the inherent driving nature of the tune itself – it all comes together perfectly. a+ music. listen to it for yourself:
*in addition to providing us with an exclusive (and super-lovely) mix, sonic router also interviewed dean: it’s a must-read!
**another amazing tune: djg – duality (buy that goodness… it is so worth your $4)
***don’t forget to check out djg’s blog.

i don’t think my coworkers like my music very much. THEIR LOSS. (such sensitive ears they must have!)
i’m just going to continue listening to this super-bouncy mix rastatronics recently brought back to life. want to make the start of the work week go by a little quicker? download it yourself and let the bass begin to melt your monday-morning boo-face away.

i’ve been closed off from bass-heavy sounds lately, for some reason feeling slightly electro-ish shoegazey pop-rock right now – but do not fret. i still have to move my body, and this is one of those tunes i am just plain feeling.
snap – rhythm is a dancer (mux mool rmx) (download @play it as it lays)
jasmin gave the nod of approval to mux mool, causing me to glance in that direction and – viola! – i’m an insta-fan. this tune is pretty lightweight, but it captures the lyrics of the original snap tune perfectly…
lift your hands and voices
free your minds and join us
you can feel it in the air
oh, its the passion
oh, you can feel it
(if you were at all interested in my mention of slightly electro-ish shoegazey pop-rock please go listen to broken bells and local natives and fleet foxes <3)
